

Once again, the Cards shot well from deep, going 11-20, but failed to out-rebound the Cougars (30 to 39).

The Cougars had a chance to win it on a last second shot but were unable to convert, as JPII squeaked by 86-84 in overtime.

The Cards were able to pull it out in the end, as Manny Obaseki hit a clutch put-back with less than a minute remaining and Nick Kendall's late free throws were the difference. JPII struggled with foul trouble late in the contest, and iSchool took advantage, forcing overtime after tying things up at 78 apiece. Credit to the Cougars, who came out on fire in the second half and made a game out of it. Senior Jaylon Tyson set the pace early for the Cards, dropping 22 points in the first half.

The Cardinals started off strong against iSchool, jumping out to a 24-15 lead after the first quarter, and led 47-27 at halftime. In perhaps their most hyped matchup of the year so far, the two teams, both stacked with nationally recognized talent, did not disappoint. Entering this weekend, JPII was 16-1 with quality wins over several UIL 5A & 6A opponents, as well as a fantastic finish against TACA. Playing at the Dickies Arena in front of a nationally televised audience thanks to Fox Sports 1, the Cardinals and Cougars put on a primetime show worth watching.
